Heal the Bay to Celebrate 20th Anniversary
For 20 years, Heal the Bay has worked to make Southern California waterways safe and healthy for people and marine life.
On Thursday, June 2, supporters, ranging from Hollywood stars to business leaders, will gather to celebrate its accomplishments and support its ongoing work at its annual "Bring Back the Beach" fundraiser and dinner.
This year's dinner will be held at 2030 Barnard Way at the beach in Santa Monica. Beginning at 5 p.m., the event will feature live and silent auctions, performances by Hootie & The Blowfish and The Bangles, and a dinner prepared by Joachim Splichal, chef and founder of the Patina Group.
Producer/director Garry Marshall will serve as guest emcee. Other Hollywood notables scheduled to appear include David Arquette, Pierce Brosnan, Keely Brosnan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Andrew Keegan, Michael Madsen, Wendie Malick, Martin Short, Amy Smart and Hal Sparks.
Laird Hamilton, professional surfer, and Gabrielle Reece, a former professional volleyball player, will also attend.
"As a non-profit organization, we deeply appreciate the support we receive from sponsors, auction donors, our membership, volunteers and the general public who make this event such a success each year," said Heal the Bay Executive Director Dr. Mark Gold. "For two decades, their generous contributions have helped Heal the Bay clean up coastal waters. Fundraising events like 'Bring Back the Beach' are vital for Heal the Bay to tackle current and future challenges."
The evening's live auction will feature a 2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid SUV, the second in a series of hybrid-powered vehicles from Ford Motor Company.
Another sponsor, Patron Spirits, will provide a tequila bar for attendees.
For two decades, Heal the Bay has worked to clean up the ocean waters through a mix of science, advocacy, education and fun. As one of the largest non-profit environmental organizations in Los Angeles County, with more than 10,000 members, Heal the Bay reaches many diverse Los Angeles area neighborhoods through volunteer programs, the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium and events such as Coastal Cleanup Day. The organization, funded by government grants, corporate sponsorships and member donations, inspires environmental stewardship by educating communities and individuals about ways to transform their neighborhoods and improve their local water quality.
