Irish Independent: Bottoms up for Brosnan
Sunday April 3rd 2005
I ALWAYS believed a wonderful actor like Pierce Brosnan made a complete arse of himself taking on the 007 role. And Kevin Sharkey's new painting of the Navan born superstar appears to confirm my worst fears.
Together with Jeff Koons and Damien Hirsch, Sharkey was asked by UNICEF recently to produce a portrait of Brosnan for a charity auction. Presumably James Bond will be shaken but not stirred when he sees the painting is, says the openly gay Sharkey with a cheeky grin, "not of his face. Pierce Brosnan's bottom (for so it is) coming under the hammer should cause a homoerotic frisson at the auction."
Kevin is in Ibiza busily painting, he says, for the biggest exhibition of his career: 'The Gresham Show' June 16-19, 2005 at the Gresham Hotel (Six paintings by Sharkey/O Malley/Le Brouquey/Crozir/Vallely). "Not bad company eh?"
'Sin', his summer exhibition opened on Friday at L, Aisha Galleria, Via Punica, Ibiza. RTE have been over to Spain to film him for an upcoming documentary about his work. This is especially good since his last RTE outing was on Celebrity Farm. "It's very flattering and it's nice to feel loved while I am alive and have all my own teeth." Kevin clearly knows the value of not biting the hand that feeds.

And the clarification on the misplaced quote:
Gremlin who's shaken not stirred
Indeed it was very much a case of the gremlins when I wrote about Kevin Sharkey's painting of a certain part of Pierce Brosnan's anatomy for a forthcoming Unicef charity do. My line about Brosnan's derriere "coming under the hammer, so to speak, certain to cause something of a homoerotic frisson" ended up in quotation marks for reasons best known to myself. I was obviously wearing oven gloves when I typed in that story.

So where do we bid on this painitng and I'd like to see what I'm bidding for.
