I usually don't post when his movies are on but this hasn't been on TV for such a long time and Box Office Prophets gave it a nice write up and alert on their site: Sunday 06/05/05: Airs at 7am & 9pm Fox Movie Channel Around the World in 80 Days (1989 USA): If you weren't completely put off the familiar story by the abominable big-screen version that came out last year, you might want to save a few hours for this forgotten TV miniseries, which returns to the small screen tonight after a lengthy absence. The 2004 version suffered from the casting of Steve Coogan as Phileas Fogg, and though I am a great admirer of Coogan's, he is neither a romantic lead nor an action star and never will be. The producers of this series wisely selected future Bond Pierce Brosnan as their Phileas Fogg, and the balance of the cast is equally impressive, with Eric Idle as Passepartout and Peter Ustinov, Robert Morley, Jack Klugman, Christopher Lee, Patrick Macnee and many others filling out an impressive roster of onscreen talent. Though lengthy at four-and-a-half hours, this version of Jules Verne's classic (if overrated) tale is, dare I say it, also superior to the big-budget 1956 version, with location footage in Britain, Hong Kong, and Thailand helping it overcome its made-for-TV limitations.

Only the supplement to June and Bond: :-)
6th June 2005 Goldeneye
13th June 2005 Tomorrow Never Dies
20th June 2005 The World Is Not Enough
But everything on one Czech channel, Nova ;D And 27th June, there will be one more film, but I haven´t seen the add and noone, I asked, could tell me, what will be this last movie about or how it is called... Many people know only Pierce as James Bond. Nothing else...

For those who like to watch it whenever it's on or those who even prefer to watch it chopped and sliced and de-sexed into a PG movie, The Thomas Crown Affair[/i] airs nationally in the U.S. on NBC tonight from 8-10pm EST.

As a matter of fact, this works out great for me. I have a bunch of baking to do, and I can only see the TV through the cupboards (they open on both sides), so I can "watch" this and still pay enough attention to what I'm doing, and move over closer for the best parts. (Yeah, yeah, but I mean relatively speaking.)

The best parts were left on the cutting room floor. But then so was about 25% of the film. Entire sequences and countless small moments have been cut out to squeeze it into 2 hours. Of course I'm still watching it but it's very unfulfilling.

What I couldn't believe was that they actually chopped in two (with commercials, of course) the "replace the Monet" scene!! Even my daughter said, "it loses something when you stop in the middle of that." No kidding. Oh, well.

So many things were cut right in the middle-- the dance scene was butchered and the sex scene was non existant. They couldn't even show the start with the kissing? What? Suddenly bare shoulders and a tie being undone is too hot for primetime? Feh!
Add to that the cutting of his entering his building (acting like he owned it) -- the cutting of him walking across his office and looking out the window-- his toasting and laugh at getting the painting -- the entire Catherine interrogation scene (though I didn't mind that cut as much) -- I think the golf scene as well --- the entire glider scene --- and on and on --- FEH!

That's not butchering anymore, that comes close to murder! (so to speak) I guess one more reason to break out one's DVD, huh?

From Ace's description, it's the same cut they showed a while ago, when it was first shown on NBC - and really, why would they change it? It was worse than a train wreck and just as impossible to look away. The Pepsi logo then also disapeared from the can in Catherine's hand, though I understand modesty had nothing to do with it. And the language... Oh the language... Tell me, those who feel offended by four-letter words, when a character says he nailed four women in three days and you can still read his lips mouthing the original swear word, does it really make it better for you?

Oh yeah nailed makes it so much better and could this same tough talking detectives twice usuage of the word "HOOT" be any more out of place and ridiculous? As out of place and ridiculous as that top Catherine is wearing on the beach. When NBC first showed it though I think they used a 2:30 min time slot so language and sex was edited but wholesale scenes for time. But after the 3rd or so showing the time slot was cut to 2 hours and hence serious butchering. Ace

I guess then this time it was even more butchered because I saw the first broadcast and there already were no gliders and no sex.
What's interesting about that top on the beach is that at the angle in that scene it wouldn't matter if Catherine wore one - the camera never goes more than a couple of inches below her shoulders anyway.
