Shrewsbury wins awardby Warren Watkins editor Michael Shrewsbury, director of Animal Services for the city of Sherwood for 12 years, will receive an award at the annual Guardianship Awards in the Beverly Hills Hilton Oct. 30. The award will be presented by In Defense of Animals, a group based out of Hollywood, California, in recognition of work Shrewsbury has done over the years to strengthen animal laws and educate animal owners. The event will be hosted by Kim Basinger, Pierce Brosnan and others. Hollywood chefs will cook for the formal affair. Shrewsbury’s wife, Miriam Faye, will accompany him and also be treated like a star for the evening. He says he is excited and elated at being chosen, as the award came as a complete surprise to him. The couple has four children, Nathan, Ethan, Elizabeth and Jacob, and four dogs. Diagnosed with terminal cancer, Shrewsbury still works every day and continues to try to help animals in Sherwood with a strong adoption program, spay/neuter clinics, and educating people about being a good pet owner.

Is it just me, or is it really nice to see a Hollywood woman who seems perfectly happy to be more than a size 2? cg

I was going to comment on the photos, too, but then I thought that I'm always saying that... Anyway. I will say it: I think that Pierce and Keely look great.

SHOPTALK: Glamour Mixed With Tears
Mon Nov 15, 6:20 PM ET Advertising - AdWeek.com "Who puts on a meaningful award show?" a faux-outraged Jon Stewart asked as he introduced his "boss," MTV bigwig Judy McGrath, one of Glamour's Women of the Year 2004, during a four-hanky ceremony on Monday night at Manhattan's Museum of Natural History. "RuPaul would give Charo an award, we'd get a gift bag and go home," Stewart joked. "No more tears!"
Indeed, to that point, there had been rivers of them: for the indefatigable Jersey Girls, four women from the Garden State who lost their husbands on 9/11 and whose efforts forced the creation of the 9/11 Commission. As they received their awards, they said there was much left to do to see that the commission's recommendations are implemented. Five actresses (including Aisha Tyler and Jessica Capshaw) read letters from five young female soldiers who died in Iraq. The crusaders of the Women's Cancer Research Fund (including Rita Wilson, whose husband, Tom Hanks, was crying in the audience) were also honored; they were introduced by Pierce Brosnan, who spoke movingly of losing his first wife to ovarian cancer.
Afterward, Shoptalk mingled with the crowd--which was teeming with celebrities as disparate as Sam Donaldson, who introduced White House reporter and award winner Helen Thomas, and Ethan Hawke, who did the honors for author Judy Blume--at a fabulous, Casbah-inspired (and Grey Goose-fueled) soirée. Then everyone got their gift bags and went home.

Rats! I missed that. That might have actually been a funny interview. Some of Ellen's stuff I'm not so fond of, but she can be very off-the-wall funny.

Oh, it was, CG! I didn’t know what to expect on this interview myself. As Pierce sat down, the wireless mike attached to his right lapel, was drooping. Ellen leans in close to try to prop it up, commenting that it was hanging. The audience, all women, reacted to that off-color idea. Pierce picked up on that, saying, “It’s hanging well!” She kept fussing with it, both of them wondering what to do. Suddenly she says, “Kiss me.” They were inches apart anyway. “Right now?” he asks, and he does kiss her, briefly. The audience went wild. He reached for the back of her head for an affectionate pat.
She said he looked fantastic, and he replied that he tries. She said she was on Robitussin and that now he “has it.” Pierce said he’s got a cold anyway, as his kids do (he really sounded as if he does). They figured out they first met when Keely was pregnant with Paris. He said his family came down to join him in the Bahamas. Ellen said something like I’ll bet, with you making out will Salma all the time. That made him really laugh.
He explained why he’s not Bond anymore, and told the story about Dylan on the Die Another Day set and being more concerned about the cars than about his father creating havoc in the DMZ. Pierce said he took him to a movie yesterday (Sunday, I guess he flew back from NY on Saturday) and some women gushed over him. Dylan said, “Dad, it’s amazing. You’re no longer Bond and they still like you.”
As the interview concluded, Ellen again told him he was gorgeous and, “You’ll have a career long beyond this, and they don’t know what they’re doing.” That was a direct jab at the Broccoli’s, and I thank her for that.

My pleasure, SparklingBlue. In fact I was just on Ellen D.'s website, where she has a "Tell us what you think" section. I sent an email thanking her for making that comment about the Broccoli's not knowing what they're doing. I wanted her to know it didn't go unnoticed.

San Diego Union Tribune: A military BondDec 2, 2004 It didn't require any James Bond theatrics to deliver gifts to a military family Monday at Legoland's tree-lighting party. Actor Pierce Brosnan just helped out Santa, who flew in via helicopter from Camp Pendleton. But when it came to joining his wife and kids, Dylan, 7, and Paris, 3, on the fast-spinning Bionicle Blaster ride, Brosnan took a pass. "You know," he confided to Legoland's Julie Estrada, "in the Bond movies I did a lot of my own stunts involving spinning, dangling and dropping down into the air, and I didn't like it." Estrada appeared as an extra in "The Heist," a TV movie starring Brosnan that was filmed here in 1989.

Did anybody over here (US) catch the Glamour magazine Woman of the Year Awards on TV? I can't believe I actually missed a Pierce appearance. I'm going to have to devise a better way to remember these things other than the current yellow post-it method.
Did he get a lot of air time?
