Severely sad news, only 57 and such a lovely and talented dancer and actor.
Damn.

Yes, rather shocking, I didn't even know he was ill. Too young to die. I was just watching him the other night on the sitcom Will & Grace and thinking how much I've always enjoyed watching him, such elegant style and a great energy. Loved him with Barishnikov in White Knights and other films and just wish he'd made more and more of his stage performances were available or shown on TV. Ace

Shocked me, too - didn't know about the cancer. Thought he had some other kind of health problem, but maybe I'm confusing him with someone else.
As one who has long considered Fred Astaire the best of the best, I have to say Mr. Hines was right up there. Way up there.
Thanks, Ace, for noting his passing. Definitely too young.

I have to confess that I don't know Mr Hines, but 57 is definitely too young to die.

Oh my gosh! Him? Of course I know him! I saw him on Will & Grace, too, only recently! I found him so funny and charming. I'm so sorry.

Growing up, I had a huge crush on Baryshnikov, and of course "White Nights" was a staple viewing. I came to love Gregory Hines because of that movie.
I continued to love him because he was such a great performer, and because he did so much to preserve the history of Tap dancing, not the least of which was fighting to get the movie "Tap" made.
He didn't want anyone to know he was sick, so he soldiered on right to the end. I'll miss him a lot.
