I've been going thru old files and found notes on announced films that never made it (Indie financing is always tough) Some of these looked like better films than some that were made during 2010-2012 2011 Nov Announced big screen adaptation of "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle," directed by Danny DeVito staring Morgan Freeman and co-starring Pierce Brosnan and Saoirse Ronan. Delayed, delayed – Freeman in car accident 2 weeks before 2012 start. 2014 DeVito attempted to start again, but …. 2011 October Announced “Toomai of the Elephants” [The Jungle Book] pre-production Jan 2012; filming March in Sri Lanka. Chandran Rutnam and his Hollywood partner Paul Mason to direct/produce $50 mil production. Pierce Brosnan and Omar Sharif 2011 June Announced “The House Gun” - Actors Pierce Brosnan and Chace Crawford have signed on to play a father and son in “The House Gun” for Lucky Monkey Productions. The project is based on the novel by Nobel Prize-winning author Nadine Gordimer. The story centers on a wealthy South African family, whose lives are turned upside down when the son (Chace Crawford) is arrested on a murder charge. The father (Pierce Brosnan) is convinced of his son's professed innocence and hires a black lawyer to try the case. The story is set in post-Apartheid South Africa, but a specific year was not given. No production schedule was given for The House Gun at this time. An anonymous insider revealed that financing for the picture is still being worked out. No screenwriter or director has been attached to The House Gun yet. movieweb.com/the-house-gun-adds-pierce-brosnan-and-chace-crawford/ - Nov. Announced Brosnan to start filming The House Gun, with co-star Chace Crawford, in the coming weeks. June 25, 2010 – Announced “Bonded” - Pierce, 57, will star in big-budget movie “Bonded,” an Oliver Twist-style thriller alongside the 26-year-old. The pair will play police officers in pursuit of a Mexican teenager smuggled into the US as a sweatshop worker. The Brosnans are also executive producers on the flick, which begins filming in September. Director Mo Ramchandani is a childhood friend of Brosnan junior. [The Express] May 2010 St. Vincent announced - Brosnan once again playing a hitman, this time going undercover as a priest in order to get close to a former mob informant, to be played by Billy Bob Thornton, but apparently discovers that pretending to be a good guy is kinda dangerous for a mob killer. Whatever that means. See, that sounds like it’s kind of an action-comedy, though Variety calls the film a crime thriller. Besides Brosnan and Thornton as hitman and hittee, “St. Vincent” will also star Maria Bello and Giovanni Ribisi, and is set to shoot on location in Detroit on July 12, with Hill directing from a script by Cameron Young. Since we are talking about missed opportunities I recently read some older articles about Pierce (from the time Dylan was newly born) and he was going to make a movie called Mister Softee which was about a fifty year old teddy bear. I now know because Sean has since talked about it, Mister Softee was his bear, and now it is his daughter's (Pierce's granddaughter). I think Sean wanted to make the movie too, with him directing, but it never happened. I wonder if Seth MacFarlene's movies Ted and Ted 2 did them in.
Pierce has also been trying to make H Block for years, and is trying again now. Maybe he can now.

Here's more notes I've uncovered: Believe The Hunter was discussed on this forum but ....
2009 Heaven and Earth – Signed in Dec 2008; Spier Films project; Feb 2009 production began, principal actors arrived on site and production shut down in Cape Town, South Africa when financing fell thru – Irish DreamTime became involved in attempt to salvage the project. Had small filming window due to Ghost Writer and Percy Jackson schedules..
2009 The Hunter –July: Irish actor Pierce Brosnan will star alongside Julianne Moore and Patricia Clarkson in The Hunter. The film is being directed by Stanley Tucci and produced by Brosnan's own production company, Irish DreamTime with Steve Buscemi on board as executive- producer. The Hunter is a coming-of-age story of a middle-aged man (Brosnan), who finds himself desperately clinging to the remnants of his once-charmed life and world amidst the aristocracy of New York's Upper Westchester County. Pre-production is scheduled to begin in September 2009 with Irish DreamTime, Olive Productions and Stan Erdreich from River Bend Pictures producing the comedy/drama.
2000 –: [Mar] announced Brosnan has lately been linked with two new projects: “Burnt Sienna” and, more interestingly, “Blood and Champagne,” the forthcoming Irish DreamTime biopic of famous war photographer Robert Capa. Partnering with Intermedia Films/MGM and Aussie director Bruce Beresford to be filmed in Ireland, 2001. Inscribed in the man's helmet was the phrase, 'a great photographer and lover'. Announced again in Oct 2000 while doing more postproduction on Tailor of Panama in Ireland.
Blood and Champagne does sound interesting.
And it looks like most of 2010 was not spent filming but promoting Percy Jackson, Ghost Writer, Oceans, The Greatest, Remember Me; and charity/green events.

Larceny For Lovers ( dir George Armitage of Groose Point Blank fame)

That's right! 2001 was another one of those years with several projects announced but .... Along with "Larceny for Lovers" there was "Defiance" and "A Sound of Thunder."
CAA and Beau Marie St Clair were certainly kept busy trying to get writers, directors contracts in place and financing, etc. And all scheduled around the start of the next Bond film and with the threat of the writers strike in Spring 2001 (which was averted in May.) Whew!
But they managed to pull together "Evelyn" which filmed from Oct - Dec 2001 because separate projects planned by Brosnan and Beresford fell apart, making both unexpectedly available. "A Sound of Thunder" stalled because of script problems as did an adaptation of the Alan Folsom novel "The Day After Tomorrow" with director Roger Donaldson. Beresford’s had planned to direct Michael Caine in "Boswell for the Defense" but it stalled freeing Beresford. Brosnan and St. Clair took "Evelyn" to MGM chairman Chris McGurk. He placed it at UA, with the caveat that the film be completed so that Brosnan would be ready to report for his fourth film as James Bond.
And all of this (along with Sean Brosnan's medical probs) explains his break in filming for essentially 16 months - from June 2000 (Tailor of Panama principal photography completed) to Oct. 2001, Evelyn begins.
2001 APRIL NEW YORK "Pierce Brosnan has inked to star in and produce "Defiance," an action drama for Phoenix Pictures. Scripted by Todd Baker, pic is an action adventure set in the near future, with Brosnan playing the leader of a renegade band of soldiers battling a totalitarian government. Brosnan and partner Beau St. Clair will produce under their Irish Dreamtime banner. "Defiance" will be vying with several other projects in which Irish Dreamtime is involved for Brosnan's slot before he starts his third James Bond film in January."

A big problem here, especially in the early 2000s is that he was locked into Bond. He had to be there for what became Die Another Day and in good faith probably marked off time to make the fifth bond film which didn't happen.
BUT....if Black Adam does for him what I think it will, Brosnan will probably have an easier time getting funding for a couple of years, as long as he (hopefully wiser now) did not lock himself into something where he has to do what DC Films tells him to, and he can hold them off and film when he wants.

Spy vs Stu Big Biazzaro

Spy vs Stu is a new one to me - what an awful idea - but yes did find a note about Big Bizarro
2007 Jan. Variety Announced “The Big Bizarro” Brosnan will also star in the film based on the Leonard Wise novel; Vondie Curtis-Hall is writing the screenplay and will direct. It's set in the world of high-stakes international gambling; Variety says Brosnan will play an elusive veteran card player who mentors a headstrong but talented protégé. Irish DreamTime and Maloof Motion Pictures.
And I do wish this Martin Campbell project had happened: Feb 2016 Announced Across the River and Into the Trees Martin Campbell to film in Italy Oct 2016– never made due to scheduling conflicts. Brosnan filmed The Only Living Boy in New York instead; Campbell tied to film “Ana” in 2017 that evolved into “The Protégé” released in 2021. (I watched The Protege and enjoyed it - a nice actioner with some predictable plot elements but it does have the Campbell touch)
And let's not forget this awful idea - 1989 Announced remake of Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer with Producer Jerome Hellman – never made thank goodness. Jerome Hellman's assistant producer was Beau Marie St Clair and at the time he was married to photographer Nancy Ellison - all friends with the Brosnans since the Ellison photoshoot in 1985. I'm thinking Hellman was just attempting to do him a good turn during a difficult time in career and personal life. I do like the Cary Grant original but this wasn't a good idea for Brosnan.

At this point, I don't see The November Man sequel happening ever and it has to be a reboot if they do, especially given Brosnan's age. But, then again, I don't see anyone touching the book series again because it's not exactly a groundbreaking or that exciting a series; it has a small fan base, too. It took Brosnan a decade to get it going and I don't think he'd proceed with another one, given that it will require him to be physically adept in action-oriented scenes. I don't think he'll commit to that.
But, one that I highly regard as a missed opportunity is the Thomas Crown Affair sequel. I read the script written by Leverage creator John Rogers and it was brilliant. Such a crying shame it didn't get to be produced because it was very clever. I've got to admit, though, that while they were going for Angelina Jolie or Charlize Theron for the leading female character, I didn't picture them in the role at all. Now, the draft I read dates it to 2007, so I don't know if those plans have changed since then. But, I'll tell you that reports of it being a remake of Topkapi were false. The events of said movie were mentioned, but nothing beyond that touches the plot, premise or the characters of the subject. I would've loved to see this materialize, but unfortunately, that ship has sailed too, unless Brosnan is willing to take the Entrapment route that Connery did back in the late 90s. But, if we're going for a Thomas Crown film that's more or less a soft reboot, I'd love to see Henry Cavill as the titular character. Perhaps John McTiernan's version of the sequel called Thomas Crown and the Missing Lioness? I'd love to read that version, too!

About "November Man," I remember reading that Brosnan said, "I should have picked up the gun sooner." A sequel needed to be in pre-production while this one was being filmed for a quick turn around, but the Indie film world isn't an easy one. The reception at the time wasn't great although it did make money. When it hit Netflix last summer it quickly made the top 10 most watched. I wonder if he wasn't trying to immulate his mate, Liam Neeson's "Taken" franchise.
I found this note - 2004 Thomas Crown Sequel "The Topkapi Affair" Brosnan will produce with his Irish DreamTime producing partner Beau St. Clair. Dino Conte will also produce. Toby Jaffe is overseeing for MGM. Written by Harley Peyton will draw on elements from the 1964 pic but based on the original source, Eric Ambler novel "The Light of the Day."
The Ambler novel is a courious choice although it does include the robbery of the Treasury Museum jewels in the Seraglio Palace.
As I recall MGM went through several corporate changes throughout this period and there was no one to push the project forward and of course Brosnan was no longer "Bond" which had certainly helped get the Thomas Crown remake off the ground. The tease of a TCA Sequel always gets my attention but nothing can match the Brosnan/Russo pairing.
I envy you having access to the John Rogers script and yes, McTiernan's "Missing Lioness" would be a great find. I have the ppbk "John McTiernan: The Rise and Fall of an Action Movie Icon" by Larry Taylor. It's slim but interesting - the chapter on TCA primarily references the director's commentary on the original dvd release but does have some additional information. McTiernan is an example of a man who came to believe his own press. But he certainly could direct a great action film.
"Leverage" is a favorite series as is the Timothy Hutton "Nero Wolfe." Actors from the Wolfe team joined Hutton in "Leverage."

I too, wish I could have read John Rogers script, or that he could play Thomas Crown again, older and wiser. And still might. I have a feeling a whole lot of doors will open for Brosnan once Black Adam hits.

Actors from the Wolfe team joined Hutton in "Leverage." Certainly. The thing is that Relativity Media was willing to go forward with the sequel project to The November Man but somehow that deal seems to have fallen through. You definitely have a point with Brosnan possibly not trying to emulate Liam Neeson at this point, but the Taken hype died out by the mid-2010s, so that could also be another reason in spite of Neeson still making pictures in that vein, albeit with a quarter of the budget his earlier action films have had. Nowadays, most unfortunately, films like those get a limited release particularly when we're living in an age of big budget franchises that overshadow everything else that comes, apart from the occasional Oscar-bait arthouse flicks here and there. There could be some truth to that they probably have intended to make a closer adaptation of Topkapi considering the draft I've got lists Harley Peyton under a "story by" credit next to John Rogers but the screenplay is accredited to Rogers alone. Unfortunately, the Katherine Banning character that Russo plays only appears in a flashback scene and only has a couple of lines, so the female lead had changed on purpose. For some reason, I pictured Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (especially when she was quite the draw back in the day) in the role considering the character was supposed to be a princess from a fictional Central Asian country. Certainly couldn't imagine Jolie or Theron in that role. It's a shame about McTiernan because he actually is a great director... Or at least 'was' in his prime, but the man hasn't made a movie for a couple of decades now. Perhaps given the opportunity he still has some energy left in him? I'd love to see him make a comeback. I also do love the original Leverage, as well. Can't say I care for the revival as it lacked the enthusiasm of the original. Come to think of it, there is a character in that Thomas Crown script Hutton would've been a perfect fit for.

McTiernan, alas, jumped on the crazy train and did some underhanded things to a business partner and he was rightly punished for it through the criminal justice system. But Hollywood, in their typical fashion, over-punished McTiernan by blacklisting him while letting other bigger monsters run around and do their worst.
But I digress.... with the move on social media for Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan to get one more Bond, and what I suspect will be a lot of positive energy coming from Black Adam Pierce might yet get another crack at November Man or some other spy flick since I doubt Amazon can push Eon into letting 007.4 and or 007.5 get another film.

At this point, this could be considered a missed opportunity, but I do think Brosnan should have been in a Mission: Impossible film, probably as the head of the British Intelligence and likely the one who trained Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), who, following the events of the last two films, would have taken over from his predecessor who... Well, I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen them, but I do think he would have been a nice addition to the cast of characters that film franchise has. But, it's already a missed opportunity to think about it even because they're already shooting the final installment in the series. Director Christopher McQuarrie is a huge fan of Pierce Brosnan, so I do think he would have been a very nice fit.

Don't have Sympathy for the Devil in my notes (of course there's The Rolling Stones), do you have details?
But have notes this abt Last Man Out:
2013 Announced Feb: Pierce Brosnan with son Sean Brosnan will star in Terry Loane's film adaptation of Stuart Neville's revenge thriller novel "The Twelve" [“Ghosts of Belfast”] retitled “The Last Man Out” at Ealing Metro. Parallel Film Productions, which made Albert Nobbs and Intermission, is the Irish co-producer, while the Irish Film Board has given (EURO)12,500 in funding. Northern Ireland Screen has also provided development funding. The story follows a former Ira hitman who, released from prison after serving twenty years for murder, is haunted by the memory of his victims. He can find no peace until he takes revenge on their behalf. CBS late-night talk show host Craig Ferguson bought the film rights and co-wrote the script with Ted Mulkerin. Ferguson, Steve Clark-Hall, Beau St. Clair, Rebecca Tucker and Jonathan Loughran will produce with filming to begin later this year. The Irish Film Board said that while a production date had not been set, it hoped the film would be shot in both Northern Ireland and the republic. The film board said it was supporting the project because there were Irish crew involved and it was "an Irish story".

EXCLUSIVE - PIERCE BROSNAN CONSIDERS HAVING SOME “SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL”JUNE 27, 2014
by: Donna Whitehead
Pierce Brosnan is circling SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL, a supernatural thriller from Das Films. The film, which will be directed by John Marks from a current draft written by Marks and Jeremy Duff, centers on a television journalist who faces off against a criminal mastermind who feeds on the souls of victims of mass murder. The film is Marks’ feature writing and directorial debut. Michelle Purple will produce.
This would not be Brosnan’s first collaboration with Das Films. Brosnan’s upcoming action thriller “The November Man,” adapted from the books series by Bill Granger, is a Das Films production. He also stars in Das Films’ romantic comedy “How to Make Love Like an Englishman,” which is currently in post-production and is slated for a release sometime this year.
“Sympathy for the Devil” would also be in line with Brosnan’s renewed focus on action and thrillers, after a long post-James Bond stretch in which he appeared primarily in lighter-hearted comedies and romances. In addition to “November Man,” Brosnan has thrillers “Survivor” and “The Coup” in production, and “I.T.” and “Last Man Out” in development.
Although both of Brosnan and Das Films’ collaborations have yet to be released, the two are obviously a good fit, given that Brosnan keeps returning. Hopefully, it will continue to be a good partnership, and fans of Brosnan’s James Bond days can look forward to seeing him in another action-oriented film (even if this one has a more supernatural bent).

I was rewatching "Tin Cup" (released 1996 filmed in 1995) so looked it up and discovered that PB was considered for the Don Johnson role - that would have been fun and with Rene Russo too! But of course PB was Bond.
