It wouldn't let me reply, either. Why don't you just open a new one if you have something to post?

In case someone cares, the board is an hour late again. Will probably be for another month or so, at elast it was in the spring. Those who want to be up to date will have to go to "Profile" and add an hour to their time.

Okay, here's my question about this board. If it is covered here please excuse my stupidity, this thread is 6 pages long, and I'm can't find it there. How does one "stay logged in"? I really hate having to sign in. I always check the little box that says "stay logged in" and never sign out, but I always have to sign in. Yes, my computer accepts cookies. Does it have anything to do with "Minutes to stay logged in - 360"? I've tried messing with the numbers but I always have to sign in. What a pain! Myrtle, who hates to sign in.

Um....my board says I just wrote the above post at 1:27 am. I know I am up at all hours, but right now, it's about 8:30pm. Sheeesh.

MG, you can match the board time to your personal time with +/- hours option I think mine's - 1 or +1 and that should work for you.
As for staying logged in, the only thing I know about that affects that is 1) checking the box and 2) making sure your browser accepts 3rd party cookies

Thanks, Ace, I changed my time to '0' and it seems to be close to accurate. It was set at '+5' and that was way off.
Hats off to ya!

I thought the time thing was all straightened out. Right now it's about an hour an eight minutes off. cg

Guess their main server went pftt again. Juts change personal settings back an hour and I guess we all have to live with the 8 minutes. Ace

Wow! I don't know if this is because I just installed new pain-in-the-a** McAfee or what, but all of a sudden ALL of the icons here are back! It's really a little freaky, like "where did all those little pictures come from?" Aside from that, I am disgusted once again that they have gotten rid of good features and made what they have difficult to get to. to McAfee. cg

My subscription with McAfee is up this week and I'm not so enamoured of it I want to pay for it. Now if only Dell will allow me to completely delete it to upload a program of my choice, so far it's being a freakin' pain. Ace

Usually all it takes is going in to add/remove programs in the control panel. There might be more than one "piece" of it to remove, but that should take care of it. (I realize this is McAfee we're talking about, so it may be glitchy.) My problem with it is every year I think "okay, I'm familiar with this now, I guess I'll stick with it" and then they change what it does and how it works. At least this time the rebate should pretty much offset the cost. cg

This may have been covered here somewhere, but I've gotten tired searching. Sorry. How does one put photos in a thread? Can they be copied and pasted? Or can I only do so by using a link? Even if I don't have a link? I'm so darn confused. Please help the computer illiterate. You ladies are too smart for the likes of me, a humble dummy.

No, they can't be copied and pasted. They can be put in just like other links, either using "insert Image" button in Reply window (a little framed picture icon, 4th from the left in the 2nd row) or manuall, like this: image_web_address.jpg - replace angle brackets with quare ones. The only problem is that those images should already be somewhere on the Internet and the site where they are should allow linking to them. Most (if not all) free websites don't allow that - if you link to any picture from my site, for instance, you'll get a Topcities logo instead; I have no control over that if I don't want to pay for web space. Most posters who post pictures use www.photobucket.com/ where one can create their own album and share their pictures with family and friends; those can be linked to. I know Ace, SparklingBlue, and I host some pictures with them. On a side note - at some point though of thinking of proposing a shared Photobucket account where every poster could create their separate album (e.g. directory) and upload pictures they want to post on this board, but it's probably not such a good idea. I wonder - how many would use such account (including those who would post if they had it, excluding those who already have an account just for that purpose, and maybe including those of them who wouldn't mind having a separate account just to post pictirues here. Sic! )

Photobucket is really quite easy to use and I've never had a problem with my account.
However, Myrtle, if you don't want to bother with your own photobucket account, I could put up the picture(s) you'd like to link to on my account.

Am I the only one who can't see my (custom-made! ) avatar? It comes from fortunecity. Has anyone else lost theirs as well?

Thanks for the information. I usually put photos on my website especially for linking from sites like this, put I was hoping for an easier solution since everytime I do anything to the website, I have to read instructions first. I really do hate being techno illiterate.

Am I the only one who can't see my (custom-made! ) avatar? It comes from fortunecity. Has anyone else lost theirs as well? Fortune City has been having offlinking problems, some photos show up others don't. But most everyone else has their icons linked from Photo Bucket. A version of your icon is there I think but you kept the old FC link when I moved over the last time FC was on the blink. Ace

Thanks. I didn't know you moved everyone to Photobucket; if you posted it, I must've missed it. I moved now, too. See how smart I am - I figured out the URL myself. (Of course, I wouldn't be able to do it if you weren't smart enough to keep the name - I would have been tempted to change it to something more meaningful, seeing as the address was different anyway, and nobody else, including myself, would be able to figure it out later. )

A seen on this board 5/10/05: This forum will be upgraded within the next 24 hours to ProBoards Version 4. This message board may be unavailable for up to 24 hours during this upgrade. For important notes about this upgrade, please click here. I checked the changes and basically the big one for users is that the birthdate feature is now mandatory to fill out. Anyone without a date or under 13 years of age will have their account deleted by the system. Profiles (17)Signatures will be displayed on the view profile page When a user's email address is changed -- by either an admin, or the user -- a new randomly generated password is sent and emailed to that user. In addition to member groups, users will be able to have their own custom title. You can choose if you want to see people's signatures when reading threads You can opt to not display avatars when reading threads You may choose to not receive any emails from the board administrators (mass emails will not send you mail) Birthday will become a required field in the profile. As we do not allow users under the age of 13, an age check will be in place which will remove accounts of users under this age.The server times will no longer default to east coast time. Everything will be based off of GMT. All user profiles will be updated accordingly to keep them in the correct time zone. Location will be shown in mini profile Other info about the upgrade is listed here: support.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=v4&action=display&n=1&thread=1099555771Ace
