Hey there!
I'm lucky getting a chance to travel to Hawaii on business pretty soon. I'll stay in Honolulu for a couple of days planning to spend some more days on the islands of Hawaii (Maui, Big Island, etc.).
Anyone out there has some tips for me!?
Thanks and cheers!

Lucky you! We were just there for two weeks this past July (lucky us!). We didn't get to Oahu, but spent one week each on Maui and Hawaii (the big island).
Maui was beautiful, but reminded me a lot of other tropical vacation resorts. It wasn't until I spent time on a catamaran day trip over to Lanai'i that I could really appreciate the island's beauty. Loved the mountains! Lanai'i was gorgeous and we had lots of fun getting there with spinner dolphins swimming along with us. Snorkeling in Maui was great and highly recommended. Beaches are beautiful but sometimes hard to find because they're not well labelled. Worth looking for! Lahaina is a nice town to do dinner/shopping/etc.
The big Island is definitely a study in contrasts. One side is very wet, tropical rainforest and the other is barren desert! It takes quite a while to get from one side to the other so don't plan on doing day trips from one side to the other. We stayed two nights in Volcano and then the rest of the week on Kohala coast. Both were wonderful. It was incredible seeing and hiking around the volcano. Definitely go where the lava flows into the ocean at night. So much better to see! On the big Island you will be amazed at how much rock you will see going on forever and ever along the roads (at least in Kohala coast area). It really impresseses on you how land is "made" from the volcanic rock. What we saw of Hilo didn't really overwhelm, but was okay I guess.
Worst part of the trip - no Pierce sightings. Wrong island to be seeing him but he was in NY at the time anyway.
Hope that helps! Enjoy the trip! Karen

Hi Karen, thanks a lot for your little report and the tips about the islands of Hawaii. From what you said and from what I read in my guide I think I'll definitely visit Big Island for a couple of days. And then ... hm Maui or Kauai or both!?! Heard/read nice things about both islands ... I guess I have to give it another thought. For what you called "the worst part of the trip", I'm pretty sure the same will happen to me as Pierce will (most likely) be shooting "The Ghost" here in Germany while I'm on Hawaii ... bad timing, I guess Cheers!
